Otto : GrizForm Design Architects Reveal New Farmhouse-Inspired Restaurant In Virginia

Award-winning firm GrizForm Design Architects were commissioned for the redesign of Farmers Restaurant Group’s largest opening, Founding Farmers Tysons, located in Tysons, Virginia.

The 12,000 square foot space has been divided into different areas, each representing a room archetype found in a traditional Virginia farmhouse. Visitors can experience different ‘microclimates’ as they pass through different spaces, which resemble a barn, front porch, kitchen, dining room, formal space, living room, and a bedroom.

On entering the restaurant, guests are met by a custom painted desk with an image of a horse. The farmyard theme is continued throughout, and to the bar where structural wooden beams are built to create a classic pitched barn roof, modelled after outdoor porch seating.

Designed to look like a typical Virginian living room, the main dining area offers ample seating, subtly partitioned by a double-sided gold family tree.

Following the stairs up, additional seating is divided into three ‘microclimates’; the farmhouse kitchen featuring a ceiling of large woven baskets with golden eggs, the boudoir with tufted booths, adorned with gold drapery and chandeliers and the formal carpeted dining room.

To enhance the rustic barnyard feel feel, Founding Farmers Tysons is filled with commissioned artwork and installations, featuring carved animals and farmyard scenes, and a phone booth allowing visitors to make private calls without having to leave the restaurant.

As well as the bespoke elements, soft furnishings and finished have been sourced using reclaimed and recycled materials where possible.
